How do you get it all done???
When I started in direct sales in my early 20’s, I was a college student; I had a full time retail job and my direct sales business. Needless to say I had a lot going on and even more ideas floating around in my head day in and day out. As women we wear so many different hats, mom, daughter, wife, worker, business owner. It is really a challenge to keep everything straight without being up all night thinking about what you need to do tomorrow.
Well here is my personal secret little weapon…. It’s not anything special but it’s been a weapon for me for the past 15 years! It is something that I learned from my director and mentor in the very first business I joined in 1997. Part of me always knew I was meant to be an entrepreneur. I just needed to find a business that I was passionate about. That is how I ended up here. Blogging and coaching is what I truly love to do.
(Whispering) Lean in close…..I am going to share my secret!
My secret weapon to increase my productivity is actually a very simple 6 Most Important Things to do List. Yes, I said 6! Not 5, not 10…… 6! 6 things are just enough to not drive you crazy but enough to make you feel accomplished.
I was taught to write my list at night before I go to bed. It acts as a brain dump. When you write down what you’re thinking…. You sleep way better at night knowing exactly what it is that you need to get done tomorrow. You wake up from a great night sleep with direction and a purpose. It is such a simple tool but so much impact.
Before I started writing this list every night, I had 100 great ideas flying around in my head, I would never sleep and I would feel so overwhelmed that I got nothing done. It caused major procrastination. All I was doing day in and day out was thinking about what I could be doing to grow my business and my clientele. Just thinking not doing. It all seemed like so much to tackle that I would just keep putting things off. Finally one day I went to my mentor and she said that I needed to take everything in my life in bite size pieces. As long as I am getting a little done everyday I am working and completing tasks. Eventually my list became routine and now even though my business is totally different I still use some of the same tools to stay productive as a business owner. It’s funny how some things just stay with you over the years.
